In addition to being an oral health problem, it also influences the social aspect, since it prevents the patient from relating to others in a pleasant and safe way.
What is periodontal disease or "pyorrhea"?
is a disease infectious caused by the bacteria we have in the mouth and that are deposited around and under the gum giving rise to the so -called periodontal bags, which are accumulation of bacteria that cause:
- Destruction of tooth support tissues (periodonto).
- Dental mobility.
- Bleeding gums.
- Halitosis (bad breath).
- Increased teeth sensitivity (cold, heat ...).
- Opening of spaces between the teeth.
On many occasions the periodontal disease is not correctly diagnosed and the patient sees normal that the gums bleed and does not pay attention, so he is formed to go to a periodically routine cleaning.
Periodontal disease must be diagnosed both by the symptoms that the patient has (bleeding, halitosis ..) and by radiographs that can show us loss of bone or infections.
This disease in its first phase is known as gingivitis , it is milder and is reversible, but if it is not solved it ends up becoming piorrea or periodontitis .
periodontitis is irreversible and not only affects the teeth that end up moving so much that they must be extracted, but also causes important loss of the surrounding bone, so it can become impossible the placement of implants to replace the lost teeth.
